Legal Question in Family Law in New York
co-owners
my sister and i are co-owners of two houses on one property. The basement in the house that my sister lives in has a small apt. She has her grandson living in it and now i find that he has moved in his girlfriend. My sister once told me that her grandson is on ss disabilty and that they make him pay her rent. His girlfriend also is on ss disabilty. Being that we are both owners wouldn't i be entitled to some of that rent she is collecting? Also the water line for the two houses run from my house to the house she is living in and that means i also have to help pay for the water they use since the bill has to be shared. If anything shouldn't he and his girlfriend have to pitch in with the water bill? How do i find out what my rights are ? Would it be expensive to see a lawayer?

Re: co-owners
As co-owners of two houses I assume that means the deed to both houses are in both names. If that is the case, you are a partner with your sister and income received is to be used for the partnership and not just one sister. After expenses are paid, net profit should be equally divided by the partners.
