Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Co-Parenting Agreement

My best friend is expecting a child (we both are females; biological father unknown). We have decided to raise the child together, but we wanted to put something in writing. Is a co-parenting agreement legally recognized in NY?.

Re: Co-Parenting Agreement

Your use of the term "co-parenting agreement" is vague. No agreement is needed to raise a child together. However, if the father is not identified and the natural mother is not married, only she would be legally recognized as parent. In order for a partner to have equal standing as a parent, one would have to adopt the child. Please call my office to schedule an appointment if you wish to discuss this further.
