Legal Question in Family Law in New York
A couple married 25 years are separated. They are filing for a legal separation and he will pay an agreeable amount until their 14 year old finishes high school. They will then sell their coop and move on. The wife is onl disability for Multiple Sclerosis and cannot work. Should he not have to pay her maintenance even after the sale of their apartment? If so, is there a formula to go by? How does one live the rest of their lives on less than $1,000.00 per month

She is more than likely entitled to some maintenance but there is no formula for it. She should determine what her needs are and what his income is to come up with a number, otherwise a judge should determine it.
