Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I have a court case in family court I have found out that the refree on my case knows the other party socically. Can i get a new one because he refuses to step down ? And what do I have to do?

You have to make a formal motion to recuse the Referee, on the grounds of bias. However, the Referee does not have to grant the motion, if the Referee believes that he/she can act impartially in the case, notwithstanding the relationship.
