Legal Question in Family Law in New York

custody

if i had a verbal agreement with my sons father to get my son back once i finished school,but he does not want to give me my son back what can i do to get him back home? he is registered at school in n.y. and i live in n.j. does that make a difference?

If there is nothing in writing presently, you would need to file for custody with the Court. If your son is living in NY however, you may have to file in NY in the county where the child lives.
