Defamation of Character

my wife has threatened to go public with information about me to employers, friends and family that could be damaging if she doesn't get the settlement she wants. What can I do to protect myself?

It depends on what she has to say, whether its true or not and various other factors. Her actions may be the basis for other causes of action/crimes besides defamation, and you may have preventative or compensatory recourse. Call an attorney to discuss the details of your situation.
