What is the differnce between getting a seperation/devorce through a mediator versus an atterney? My husband wants to go through a mediator for a seperation but my aunt warns me against it.....I want to go in to this having as much information as possible as to make the right decisions for me and my children. It depends on the relationship between you and your husband. If you feel that you can come to a reasonable and negotiated settlement of all issues including child custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, etc. then mediation is a very good way to go. If there is serious tension and conflict and you do not feel that you or your husband can be very reasonable and I do mean very reasonable then mediation can be a lesson in futility. I do mediation and have has numerous successful mediation's but I see many of them turn contested.

If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to contact me at 516-746-4747 or [email protected].
