There are many ways to tell if an attorney is good. How is he about returning your calls, what is his reputation among other lawyers. Is he well rated in the books by Martindale-Hubbel?

Check on his website, does it look professional, is it well written? Does he chair a committee at the bar? Has he been active in Bar Association activiity? Does he write on topics dealing with your area of law.

You said it was taking a long time to get divorced. Have you asked the court clerk if the case is taking too long. WHat is the average in the courthouse where your case is pending?

Finally how do you feel about him? Do you trust him? Do you feel comfortable asking him questions? If you answer no to one of these last two it is time to find a new lawyer.
