Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Divorce bifurcation

I have read on this board that it is possible to bifurcate the divorce (to request the judge to grant the divorce and separately set a date do resolve all material issues). How exactly can it be done? What paperwork is involved? Can it be done for any case or there are some limitations? Also, is there a legal limit on time a judge can use to decide on the case (we have had already two court appearances)? Thank you!

Re: Divorce bifurcation

Hi:

You should really speak with your lawyer who will let you know if you are able to bifurcate the proceedings depending on what stage your case is at. Good Luck
