Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Divorce
Although we are contemplating getting a divorce and have not drawn up any papers whatsoever, we still live in the same house while hardly saying much to one another even though it is uncomfortable for all of us.
I feel that my wife has not taken any direct action against me just because she does not work right now, and I'm the one paying all the bills in the house.
I feel that she's just making her secret plans before she really starts badgering me to leave.
Her older 21 yr old kids are also making it uncomfortable for me in my own home by disrespecting me and provoking by making lewed comments indirectly to me.
How should I prepare myself in this situation?

Re: Divorce
Obtain a copy of all financial documents. This includes a copy of all tax returns for the past 3 years together with bank statements, stocks bonds and security statements, credit card statements, mortgage statements, automobile loan statements, etc.
Copy all house related expenses such as electric bill, water bill, heating bill, telephone and cable utilities, and (if possible) food bills.
Cancel all joint credit cards. Any joint bank accounts should be discontinued or closed.
Finally, you must not engage in any physical or mental abuse of your wife.
