Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Divorce is in my future.
I am a disabled married man who is looking to get a divorce. I have a wife of 22 years, and two children, one in college and the other in 3rd year of high school. I was thinking of getting a divorce as soon as my 2nd child is out of the house to avoid trauma as much as possible. Since my wife is the money-maker and her family is relatively wealthy, I need to know if there is anything I can do now to help secure my finances from the presumed onslaught once procedings have been initiated.
Thanks

Start gathering documentation that will help you identify, value and locate assets. You will also want to gather evidence to show grounds (cruelty, adultery etc.). If you're certain about your plans, you should probably meet with an attorney sooner, rather than later.

This is a difficult situation. I asssume your disability has created special problems. I am sorry it has worked out this way.
No, there are no 'special preparations. Just try to identify all financial assets and also track any 'gifts'.
good luck.
