Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Divorce outside of the US
Hi!
My husband is treating to divorce me outside of the US (Russia, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, etc). He is claiming that will be much easier and cheaper for him. I would like to know if he can do that legally. We are both US citizens and get married in NY.

That depends on the laws of those countries. If he does obtain a Judgment of Divorce from another country, NY will more than likely accord recognition of the judgment under the basis of "comity".
