My legal residence is Virginia, yet I maintain an apartment in NY where I work. Which state should I hire an attorney?

NYS has residency requirements of at least one year if you were married here, you and your spouse lived here during the marriage or the cause of action arose here. If he is a resident of Virginia, then it may be easier to do it there.
