Legal Question in Family Law in New York

divorce

i was married (in new york NY) and in process to get a green card. unfortunately we separated shortly after and i just got a temporary work permit. around the time when it was time for the Green card interwiev i received a letter from INS saying that my husband was married prior to our marriage and never divorced from the first marriage. i have moved back to europe almost two years ago and it's time to close that chapter. how do i get a divorce or is my marrieage not legal to begin with. i want to be sure that i can marry again and what do i need to do to divorce/void/null the first marriage?

Re: divorce

If your husband was legally married to someone else at the time of your wedding, your marriage to him is null and void, of no legal effect.
