Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Divorce and separated for 20 years

I married the mother of my child over 20 years ago. We have not lived or been together for over 20 years. I only married her to get my daughter in the states. I paid an attorney to do this divorce and now he is disbarred and my case is pending in Queens NY. I need to know what is the best way to proceed? I do not want to pay much for divorce and the ''wife'' said she would sign papers no problem but the previous attorney wrote an affidavit that was all wrong and stating we lived together in 2006 I did not read the affidivit prior to him sending it and just signed it. Can I get my document amended and reforwarded to her. I need this over with and I tried to do this twice years ago in Jamaica & never got completed. I need advice and direction. Please help.

Re: Divorce and separated for 20 years

If you signed documents that are not true you would have the opportunity to amend the documents.

A new attorney would have to review the entire file and papers filed with the Court - if any -, and essentially re-do what the prior attorney attempted concerning your divorce.

If you want you can contact this office to provide me with more information so I can tell you how to proceed.

Mike.
