Legal Question in Family Law in New York

divorce

i am trying to get a divorce from my spouse. i started my divorce papers and now i have to serve him, the problem is he abandond me 3 years ago and i have no known address for him. i have done many searches on the internet and i cant find him, his family will not help me either on where he is. i believe that he maybe in a different state than i am. can you please help me by telling me other things i can do to get his address or on how to serve him the papers with an unknown address. thank you.

In order to proceed with the divorce you will need to locate him and have him personally served. However, if you were able to locate him you may need a court order permitting "substituted service".
