Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Divorce

I came to the usa on a fiancee visa,my husband and i married at city hall but the marriage has broken down. He claims he has filed for divorce so i can move out of his apartment. He does not provide even food for me to eat since march when he started kicking me out of his apartment. He has also refused to file for me to get my work permit so i am unemployed too.

Please what is my current status and how long does it take for a divorce to be processed in ny and what legal rights do i have in this country at the moment considering my present situation?

Re: Divorce

It will very much depend on the circumstances of your marrtiage failure and divorce. You migh have certain privileges in divorce proceedings and also in Immigration, but you need to consult a lawyer with more details in order to establish exactly what rights you might have.
