Legal Question in Family Law in New York

get divorced without seperation

Both of me and my husband are not American. I'm H1 visa holder and he is in the application of H1 status. We get married in 1999 in Long Island Hempstead but we live in Queens. I just can't stand him any more. I hope I can get divorced quickly without seperation. However, I don't know how to have the grounds proved. How can I prove his cruel treatment? On the other hand, I just start working this year but my current salary is slightly higher than his. Does this mean I might have to pay him maintenance? He is actually from a rich family, although he hasn't get his heritage assets yet. It would be ridiculous for me to pay him. Luckily we don't have child. We don't have any join accounts neither real estate. A friend told me whatever under my name is mine; under his name would be his. Is that true?

Your friend is wrong. In NY property is equitably distributed without regard to title.
