Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Divorced 4 years. Divorce agreement has me paying spousal support for 10 years total.

Someone told me that anytime, even after I finish paying her 6 years from now, that if she ends up on public assistance the county can come after me for payments.

Is this true? Can the county/courts hold me eternally responsible for supporting my ex?
