Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Emancipation 17 year old
I reside in NYS. My 17 year old daughter has announced her intentiones of moving out to live with her aunts and grandmother one month prior to her 18th birthday (which is in a little over a week) because she is unhappy with the rules of our household. I do not want to phone the police and cause stress and heartache to all concerned when it is only four weeks later that she can legally move. Should I proceed with a police report anyway? I have told her repeatedly that she has a home and does not need to move to the home of her relatives. However she along with them has been planning this since they - the family tried to sue for visitation as well as custody when my daughter was 14 (which of course - they lost). They are unstable and not a good influence on her - however as she stated ''I finished high school, and I got my diploma there is nothing you can do!'' Please advise as to how I can proceed to protect my household from future requests of child support - which is something her grandmother and aunts have always been after.

Re: Emancipation 17 year old
A little known fact - if you toss her out of the house, you are liable for support. If she moves out against your wishes and refuses to return to your house because she does not want to follow your rules, then she is emancipated, and she is on her own.
If she won't live under your rules, she won't live under her other relatives rules. It is just a matter of time that she is on the street and begging to come home.
