Re: engagement ring

The usual best course is to return the ring.

However, whether a Court will find you "legally obligated" to return the ring, depends upon the reasons for the "break up," your particular and respective circumstances; your original intentions, promise or understanding re the ring; and the overall nature of your relationship.

Please note:

If you are not "out of pocket" for the ring or your wedding costs and preparations. If you did not directly or indirectly pay for the ring purchase, (ie., perhaps by sharing the expenses of maintaining a home together, or something else); or, if you did not make changes in your life, based on the "marriage promise", that cost you the loss of money or opportunity.

Then, if it's over, END IT! AND, return the ring if requested. Keeping it can only continue that, which is finished and lead to greater costs and expense, both monetary and emotional.

Good Luck,
