engagement rings

Good Morning,

This questions is related to my father, he gave a woman an engagement ring,they had broken up and he wants his ring back,can he legally get it back?

Yes, he can. The ring was a conditional gift, the condition being the marriage which did not take place.

Yes. He can request the return of the ring and he may win a lawsuit to have it or the money value of the ring if he chooses to bring such a lawsuit. The ring was given in exchange for her promise to marry him. If she calls off the wedding, she must return the ring and re-imburse him for any reasonable wedding expenses (all wedding expenses are reasonable these days!). On the other hand, if he called off the wedding or it was mutual, then it gets more complicated, but he still has options.
