Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Entitled to support?

What is the legal precedent for support of a child age 17, who is an out of state (GA) student yet still a dependent? Is a parent still obligated for support and if so until what age? I paid support for two children unitl 2006 at which time the older child resided with me. The support obligation was (according to NY law)Mother55%-Father45%, which I waived at the time. Now our child is off to college and the decree is because she does not reside in my house she is not entitled to support. She has no other means of support.
