Legal Question in Family Law in New York
When my exhusband and I were in the Marines we married in Okinawa, Japan. About a yr later we went to my home of record, NY, to have a real wedding, got a new license and wed in NY. In '05 we divorced in the state we were stationed, NC. My home of record is NY, his NC. We divorced the NY union. Is the marriage from Okinawa still valid?

If you were properly married in Okinawa under the laws of Japan or through the military if you were on a U.S. military base, then the New York marriage is void. If you were not married under any law while in Okinawa, then the New York marriage is valid and your subsequent divorce is legal.
