Legal Question in Family Law in New York

There is a family of 4 consisting of husband, wife and 2 sons. Husband left the marriage a year and a half ago. Nothing is legal. He pays all of the household bills, mortgage con ed, cable, water etc. In a ddition he sends $1000.00 each month. $300.00 per month is used to purchase medication. Wife says it just isn't enough for food, gas and anything else that may come up. If she goes to family court will she be able to get more than $1000.00 per month. The wife does not work.
