Legal Question in Family Law in New York
I would like to know if I go into family court on the day of my court date and ask for an adjournment due to the fact that my lawyer was unable to make it since my court date was scheduled very quickly, and I have a order of protection in effect now with visitation for my child included in the order. Will the court grant me the adjournment and keep the order of protection as is? Thank you.

If you do have an attorney, get an Affirmation of Actual Engagement from the attorney to give to the court. If you don't, don't lie, tell the court you have decided to get an attorney and you have been calling but have not found anyone to take the case yet and you need an adjournment. Usually this works. Be aware that in most cases, the person whom the order is against comes to court and requests time to get an attorney. Not always but many times.
A very good attorney in your area is Larry Kivitz,Esq., 518-477-1018.
