Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Family/ Divorce/ Immigration

I am originally from Peru, and have lived in the United States for 13 1/2 years.

I married someone for citizenship 10 years ago. We did not live together, and were married for 5 years.

During that time, I met a man from Poland. We fell in love, and had a child. He told me that because I had obtained citizenship illegally, if I had a baby with someone else, I would be deported- and convinced me that I should use a false name on our daughter's birth certificate.

My daughter is now 7 years old, and her father is abusive. He says that I cannot leave him because if I do, he will take my daughter from me.

I don't know what to do, and the last lawyer I saw refused to represent me, and even said I should be ashamed.

While I cannot advise you on your situation, I can tell you that the lawyer who you spoke to should be ashamed of his own behavior, and should not be a lawyer.
