Legal Question in Family Law in New York

fathers rights

i have 2 daughters, 15 and 13. they have boyfriends. their father doesnt want this to be until they are in the 11th grade. i discussed with him many times that i have this under control. they are active in support and thank god are good girls. he wants me to have them end the relationships that we are disobeying something that he believes in. what are my rights and what are his. the girls really dont ever go see him anymore. he badgers them about boys and how bad they are. i have a very good relationship with my girls and i dont want them to lose it with their dad. i told him that this could happen and he said he does not care if he is the bad guy. no boys. is this a reason to lose custody of my daughters. by the way he rarely pays child support. i have an excellent job at new school university as dir of operations. i dont know what to do. if i should get the ball rolling with an attorney. please advise.

Re: MOTHER'S RIGHTS

From your note, I am assuming that you are separated, but not divorced. As the father of two daughters, now in their 20's, I can tell you that your husband is going through what most fathers of daughters go through, except that he his not handling it very well.

Your husband could benefit from counseling, if you were able to get him to go.

This may also be the appropriate time to complete the divorce, and give closure to all concerned. After you establish yourself as the legal custodial parent, you can set the ground rules for your daughters' social life.

If need be a Law Guardian can be appointed, and conditions of visititation can be established. One might be that there should be no discussion of boys, because it makes your daughters uncomfortable.

There is no excuse for his not paying child support, unless he is paying the mortage, etc.

Suggest you have an in-depth consultation with an experienced matrimonial attorney.
