if i need to file for divorce in new york do i need to file for separation or can i just file for divorce

You do not need to file for a legal sep. There are other "grounds". However, NY has recently become the final state to have "no fault" divorce. It should go into effect mid-Oct (we are getting the particulars now, including how the court wants us to file). If you are on Long Island, call me at (631) 848-1204 to discuss your options.
