Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Where to File for Visitation

I am not married to my child's mother and want to file a petition for visitation. Do I need to file in the county where the mother and child reside, or can I do it in my county?

Re: Where to File for Visitation

Such matters are filed in the family courthouse, where the Court decides on support the rights of nonmarried parents (and visitation).

Family Court Act Sec. 818 states that venue is the county where either party resides.
