Legal Question in Family Law in New York

When filing an appeal I know that I have 30 days from the entry of judgment to file (in the 1st Department) and serve a Notice of Appeal and Preargument Statement. However, I was wondering how long after the entry of judgment I have to file and serve my Appellate Brief? Is it supposed to be done within 30 days as well or do I have additional time for it?

Q. how long after the entry of judgment I have to file and serve my Appellate Brief?

A. That is called "perfecting your appeal." In the First Department, you would have nine months to perfect the appeal ("necessary papers and briefs offered for filing"). However, you should review 22 NYCRR 600.11.
