Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Filing Divorce Petition

My ex and I filed our separation agreement without an attorney and would like to do the same thing with our divorce papers. do we just take the divorce petiotin to the court house or can we have it notarized and filed at the County clerks office? What do we have to do to keep from involving a lawyer?

Re: Filing Divorce Petition

In an uncontested divorce, the various documents needed can be notarized and then filed with the county clerk. It may not be necessary for either of you to go to the courthouse. (There are various online and/or printed materials available with detailed instructins to assist in "walking you through" the uncontested divorce process without involving a lawyer.)
