Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Filing Toronto, Ontario (Canada) Child Support Court Order in New York City cour
I need specific instructions on how to file a canadian child support court order in New York City courts.
The Child Support Order originated in Toronto, Ontario. In order for this order to be enforced, it must be filed in a U.S. court. The father lives in Soho, NYC. I need:
a) the name and address of the court nearest Soho
b) detailed procedures on how to file this document in your courts
c) instructions on how to proceed with the courts in having this order enforced
I expect to be in NYC next October and to deal with this issue in person.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance in this matter,

Re: Filing Toronto, Ontario (Canada) Child Support Court Order in New York City
The best method to handle an out of country support order with an individual that resides in New York is to petition the New York County Family Court.
The Family Court has an intake room and will handle all procedural aspects of the action (preparation of documents, court date, service of documents, etc.). The cost is free.
I strongly suggest that you bring either a certified or exemplary copy of the Canadian Order. Depending on whether the non-custodial appeared in the Canadian Court will determine whether the out of country support order will be introduced into evidence in Family Court.
