Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Final divorce decree

My question is I filed for a uncontested divorce in New york. I received the papers from the court with a file number stating it was received and entered into court records. My spouse did not respond to the divorce documents, and I left the state before going to court to recieve the final judgment. The question is did the state automatically give us a divorce even though neither one of us showed up to a court date? (based on the divorce paperwork) And if so how can i go about getting a copy of the final divorce papers?

Thank you

Re: Final divorce decree

Suggest you retain an attorney who can investigate this and find out what is going on.

You may be confusing the Summons, with a Judgment of Divorce.

I practice in NYC and Long Island.

Re: Final divorce decree

From what you described, it sounds as though you filed the summons and was issued an index number. You have to file additional papers to finalize the divorce.
