Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Re: Finalization of uncontested divorce

My "uncontested" divorce papers were legally filed on 12/9/99 and I was told that it would take 2 to 3 months to resolve. It has now been 7 months and all my attorney can say is that the Brooklyn courts are overwelmed with cases and there is nothing he can do but wait. He provided misinformation stating I may return to my maiden name which legally I can't until all is final, not to mention avoiding my phone calls I want to know what I can do to expedite my divorce proceedings with or without the assistance of my attorney.

You attorney is correct, there is nothing he can do; the court is simply overwhelmed.
