Legal Question in Family Law in New York

How do I find my husband?

My husband left me about 4 1/2 years ago. I recently hired a lawyer who told me in order to get divorced I needed to locate him first. With several attempts in contacting his family members I got no response. I searched all over the web, and found no listings for him. I even have a friend who works for a gov't agency, and came up with the fact that he gave up his NY State Driver's Liscense and re-located to California. I called this residence and was told I had the wrong number...

What do I do next? How can I find him?

Re: How do I find my husband?

You can request a skip trace, but in my experience, skip traces do not always locate people.

Ask your attorney to look into procedures for divorce when one of the spouses cannot be located. Just because your husband disappeared doesn't mean he stays your husband forever.
