Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am trying to fugure out if I would be better off financially divorcing my husband or staying married.

We have been living separately since the end of 1983. This is in regard to retirement and the possibility of him having hidden assets. I need to know What persons to contact and what I am entitled to as his wife. We get along right now but we obviously didn't before. Our 5 kids are grown and out of the house living their own lives and raising their own families. He has retirement from his union. As for other assets I think he has a relative keeping money, etc. for him on the Q T.

I am not looking to drain him I just want to know that I am getting what I am entitled to under the law. He is going to be 63 years old and I just turned 62 with no prospect of retiring because I have no money of my own that will see me thru life when I retire. I have a retirement benefit thru my job, and an annuity which does not have much in it. I need to know about Social Security, etc.

Thank you for your help

TRACEY BLOODSAW LAW OFFICE OF TRACEY A. BLOODSAW

You will only find out exactly what he has once the "discovery phase" of a contested divorce is under way. Unless he volunteers this information, there is no one person or entity to contact or that would give you this information without a court order.
