Legal Question in Family Law in New York

future earnings

My husband and i are getting a divorce. He makes alot more then i do. He says that he will go after me for my future earnings since i received my degree while we were married. What is my financial obligation to him? I went to community college and the total cost of the degree couldnt be more then 10k. Additionally he also finished up college while we were married but he says since he does not use his degree for his profession that its not the same.

Re: future earnings

You should stop discussing financial issues with your husband directly and discuss the matter, instead, with a matrimonial attorney who represents you. This is not an area in which "one size fits all" solutions are used.

The law with regard to equitable distribution is complex. The specific facts of your case will determine what the equities are in your situation.
