Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I want to gain custody of my children. My ex-wife and I divorced in 2006 and she gained custody because she had a home and vehicles, I was left to live in a car. She still live in Pennsylvania. I now live in New York. Over the course of the past 5 years my ex-wife has disappeared and reappeared, leaving me to wonder what has happened to my kids. She also has been arrested on a few occasions for drugs and stealing. She has also moved backed into her parents 2 bedroom house. She was just arrested again for stealing and she may go to jail, she wants to leave her parents with guardianship because they are more familiar with them, but I believe I should be able to gain full custody due to the instability caused by my ex-wife. I want to know what I would have to do to gain custody, it just seems that my life is a lot more stable than hers, and I would be better able to take care of them at this point in time.

Assuming that your children are located in Pennsylvania, you would have to petition a court in that jurisdiction. New York would not have jurisdiction.
