Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Grandparents Rights

My in-laws have filed a petition for visitation of my two children. In 'it' they are stating that I am preventing them from seeing their grand-children, this is totally untrue. My husband(who's their son)and I have repeatedly told them that they can visit my children whenever they like it at my house and under my supervision-[I'll not go into too many details]I have been harrassed by his mother for the past 12 years. I've reached the point that I don't want anything to do with her. Especially, for what she has written about me in the petition, that I don't show love and affection or even kiss my kids. That I am very mean to the children,etc.etc. These are all lies and she knows it! The reason why she wrote that is to harrass me. I love my kids very much, my kids are my life. I am very hurt by all this.I'd like to know if I have some legal action against her. Like: filing harrassement charges,or get a restrain order- Or what else can I do? We need some peace in our life. My husband and I have decided to deny them any visitation rights because of the LIES she's written about me.Thank You, for your help.

Re: Grandparents Rights

You should retain counsel and oppose the petition. You have to win on the merits. Your mother-in-law sounds like a destructive force, so you should prevail if you have skilled counsel.
