Do grandparents have any legal rights to visitation of grandchild?

Yes; The law has been changed in recent times to give Grandp[arents the right to petition for visitation.

Technically, it is the child who has the right to visitation, but the adult (grandparent) is the one who must make the petition.

They have the right to file a petition with the court, however, the court must find that... (1)they have "standing" and if so, (2)that visitation would be in the "best interest" of the grandchildren.

So, in NY, visitation is not an automatic legal right of the grandparents.
