Legal Question in Family Law in New York
grounds
My wife and I were married three weeks when I was forced to leave. Although there were many incidents of "cruel and inhumane treatment" over the course of our relationship, only two occurred white we were married. The final instance, however, included her striking me, threatening me, and menacing me with dangerous flying objects. Do I have sufficient grounds for divorce? There were no witnesses to either of the two incidents. If I do not have sufficient grounds, what do I do? I cannot return to the marriage for a variety of considerations, including personal safety. Thank you.

Consult an attorney and a battered spouse network.
Based upon the small amount of information provided, you appear to have grounds, but the incidents have to have happened within the last five years.

Re: grounds
You may have sufficient grounds to state a cause of action for cruel and inhuman treatment and you may have other grounds, as well. I suggest you consult with an attorney as soon as possible to explore your rights.
