Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Husband is a auto mechanic and has spent a large fortune on tools during our marriage which was our money. Am I entitled to any compensation as I don't want the tools because that is his livelyhood however I do want 1/2 of what they are worth. What is NY state law re: mechanics tools aquired during a marriage?

The tools are marital property subject to equitable distribution. In plain terms, your husband would have to pay you 1/2 fair market value of tools purchased during the marriage.
