Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My husband has just begun divorce proceedings. I have not yet gotten an attorney. We are in agreement so far on everything. He says he will pay the max in child support (we have a three year old) and we are in agreement on custody. We have been married five years and he makes twice the salary that I do. His attorney told him he is not required to pay alimony. Is that true?
