Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My husband moved out 2 years ago, has been living with his girlfriend for over a year and filed for divorce before 10 months after he left. Six months later I got divorce papers in the mail so I hired a lawyer, as soon as I had representation, he fired his lawyer and hired a new one. My lawyer says that techinically there is no divorce action because I was not served properly and once her fired his 1st lawyer, the proposed agreement was further invalidated. My spouse has ignored requests for information and has not helped with our home maint, insurance or mortgage. What recourse do I have against him? My lawyer has spent my $2000 retainer and has still not told me what I am entitled to.

I would suggest consulting with another lawyer for a second opinion.
