Inheritances and Life Insurance

I understand that in a divorce, a husband or wife is not entitled to any inheritance his spouse may have received; however, what about any money the spouse received from a life insusrance policy acquired during the marriage? The parties to the upcoming divorce reside in New York State.

The answer is that it is probably separate property unless marital assets were used to purchase the insurance policy.
