Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Intrafamily Interstate Adoption
We have been the guardians of our nieces' son for 6.5 years. She has had nothing to do with him for same period. Our guardianship is in Nebraska now we live as a family in New York. (Active Duty Military). We want to adopt him as he already goes by our last name and knows us as Mom & Dad. Which state has jurisdiction? Is it the best way to pursue abandonment for adoption? Thank you very much!

You can file to terminate parental rights, and apply for the adoption.
