Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am an Italian citizen, planning to marry a US citizen in NYC. I own property in Italy. What happens to my property when i get married? Does it stay 100% mine - or does it automatically transfer to my wife?

You should consult with an attorney in Italy, under NY law, the property that you own prior to the marriage is more likely to remain yours, however, any improvements, equity, rents, etc. during the marriage are more likely to become subject to equitable distribution. You should have a prenuptual agreement if you want to protect your property rights.

all yours unless Italian law says otherwise, but you new wife may be entitled to 1/2 the increase in value during your marriage
