Hello My friend she lives here in New York and she want to know how old you have to be to move out on your own her and I heard it is 16 years of age but we are not shore and we were wondering what age you have to be to get amancipation i think that is how you spell it it means to devorice your parents and we want to know thank you for your time Jamie

You cannot move out on your own until you are 18 years old unless you have the consent of your parents. If you have the consent of your parents you can move out at 16. You cannot "divorce" your parents. You can be emancipated with parental consent, or if you can prove grounds for doing so. In order to bring a case however, you will have to have an independent guardian bring an action for you.
