joint custody and medical consent

My 14 year old son whom I have phsical custody of needs brain surgery. His father has sent a letter to hospital denying consent. I have top neurosergeon in this field

You need a court order, which can be obtained on an emergent basis. Bring it on by Order to Show Cause. You might first ask the surgeon why your consent alone is not sufficient, especially if you are the custodial parent.
